Most movies have a story to tell that, at least in some way, conveys a message: something that has meaning. This movie is perhaps one of the most story/message-devoid movies I have ever had the displeasure of watching. The only thing it conveys is that war is bad, which it does exclusively by just slapping you in the face with some atrocities and nothing more. I sure hope we all know war is bad and we definitely do not need this atrocity to tell us that. This movie only seems deep to people who sincerely lack in depth themselves.
There is no climax to this movie, no point, no reason. It's just a series of loosely connected events of a group of people on an absolutely incomprehensible quest that defies logic and plausibility. It is filled with cliches and tropes which eventually culminate into exactly nothing.
Normally I tend to at least generally agree with IMDB ratings but this movie does not in any way, shape, or form, deserve a 7. It is a 5 at best and I only give it that because in I'm used to absolutely godawful horror movies with a 5 dollar budget, which actually seem pretty decent in comparison now that I think about it.

This was a pretty decent series of movies, though generally diminishing in quality with each installment. Yet still, they were always good for a decent watch, although I must admit I am far more lenient in my evaluation of horror movies than any other genre. This one just.....fell flat. It's exactly the same as the rest. There's nothing new, nothing special, nothing noteworthy about anything it shows. It completely and utterly lacks any kind of inspiration.
I think it's time for this series to come to an end, because the next one is only going to be worse, at which point it's going to be absolutely awful, since this one was already pretty bad.

The first Matrix movie was lightning in a bottle. The second and third were certainly not of the same quality, but were adequate as action movies. While there are a lot of reasons for why this fourth installment is worse, I will highlight one that I personally found most noticeable.
In the first three the enemies they faced felt severe and dangerous. Agent Smith, the Architect, the Merovingian...they all had a certain gravitas to them. A sense of authority and danger that made them feel lethal and powerful. But none of the enemies this movie feel dangerous, at all. There is a complete and utter lack of gravitas in all their portrayals. They don't feel intimidating or dangerous. They feel like regular people and that just isn't intimidating.
