I agree with other reviewers. The leads have little to no chemistry. I did not enjoy the towns folk bombarding Candance and putting her on the spot to perform for them. Expecting her to work on her Christmas holiday when she was suppose to be there as a guest. They didn't care about guilt tripping her to give up her entire Christmas holiday up until Christmas eve/day as complete strangers and then expecting her to work/perform for them at every turn. She was way too nice and allowed them to bully her into these situations that could have been avoided had she just put her foot down and not allowed them to walk all over her. I am also disappointed that Candance had little to no character development. You would think that someone who has essentially been doing her job her entire life, she would have picked up some skill, or at the very least, a backbone as a "celebrity". She was so concerned about disappointing people that she is incapable at saying no. It felt entirely unbelievable, and boring to be honest, I found myself skipping through some parts. The newspaper boss is just looking for a lawsuit, and how ungrateful to try to tear down a woman who gave up her own time and Christmas holiday for a little girl and her family, who was constantly just expected to perform and even the little girl begging her, it was just all too rude to be believed that people could be so thoughtless and inconsiderate. All she had to do was be honest with everyone from the beginning and tell them her mom was the talent and she was the manager, concept designer, etc, whatever. Problem solved, no need to lie. However, I guess we wouldn't have a movie, that I would recommend skipping anyway, or going in with the expectation that you will be either annoyed or bored to tears.
This is definitely going in my top Christmas romance favorites. It's not ground breaking by any means but it was so well done that I hardly cared it was predictable. Alexa and Carlos PeneVega are so well matched in acting. I had no idea they were so well matched in harmonious singing too. Alexa in particular stunned me when she started singing. The plot line you probably already are familiar with. Childhood friends that share a passion for music writing and singing. She goes off to follow her dreams and missed the hidden song that explains his feelings asking her to stay. Eight years later, after her celebrity "break up," she decides to go back home. They reconnect and it was like no time at all has passed. She wants his help in writing a song to get her celebrity boyfriend back; leading to some wonderful singing, sweet moments that were really brought to life between these two real life love birds, and Christmas themed background. You will recognize the general plot if you have watched any Hallmark or GAF romance. I still loved every second of it and was bummed when it was over. I look forward to the PeneVegas next movie, I have seen everything they make. I was so very disappointed that we have no more Picture Perfect Mystery. I adored that series.
So much down voting on reviews that are being completely honest. The FACT of the matter is that Aurora is out of line often. She is a border line criminal. I know these shows are meant to be fun but the writing is just so bad. The plots are just too far fetched and they make Aurora into a complete idiot. The only reason she "solves" anything is because she outright accuses everyone until she gets it right, impedes on people's rights (like barging into their homes without concent), blabbing her mouth about everything to everyone, and breaks the law when she interferes into every investigation. If a father gets a ransom demand and they say no cops. It's HIS choice whether or not to go to the police NOT hers and yet she feels she is the only one who gets to make decisions. The police have said a billion times to stop interfering and it's in one ear and out the other. She does what she wants when she wants and nothing, not even the law, will stop her. The last one I watched she left her shot lover and another boy bleeding out, defenseless, and a baby upstairs, in an unlocked house as she ran across the street to peep in on the other house. I thought she was going for her phone to call an ambulance but nooooope, she went to go spy on the neighbors as Martin was bleeding out on the floor. She is ridiculous and I can not deal with it anymore. I have switched to the new Fixer upper with Jewel and I love those. I wish they would make more. At least she has common sense.
