Sixty years ago Childhood's End was the first science fiction book i read. Like others wno read it long ago I wanted to see the film adaption. I remembered the reveal and the ending but wasn't all that impressed with the book. Fortunately a Science Teacher introduced me to Heinlein and Asimov and I was off and running, inhaling all the SciFi to be found.
While at university i had organized a Science Fiction Week and invited Asimov. He wrote back that he didn't fly. I then offered to drive to Boston and bring him back (I had a 1953 Buick at the time). He didn't respond. Heinlein too did respond on another matter.
Back to Clarke. Although I watched "2001, A Space Odyssey" twice, I didn't care for it, even as a fan of Kubrik. I did like the book. And "Rendevous with Rama" was wonderful as were the sequels.
But this is about the "Childhood's End" television series. It was too long. Other reviewers (who BTW wrote great reviews) suggested it could have just been a two parter; I'd say one ninety minute movie would have served. Not sure the second part added much; I was leess invested in it than the first.
I didn't like how the Overlord Spaceships just hung in the sky, like a still work of art painting. Even the clouds didn't seem to move. The streak of light scenes radiating characters, wore thin. The chlid playing Jennifer was great.
Not sure how the children in the theatre got through the ceiling during the uplifting. The first four fifths of the last third was boring. The last twenty minutes held my interest. Milo's last encounter with Rachel was shocking. It was an interesting option Milo had of staying with the Overlords versus what he chose.

This is for those wondering at the 8.1 rating. For me it was a boring film. The characters weren't engaging. There was more slapping around than in a Three Stooges skit. In the end they don't even solve the crimes, after physically abusing every suspect they locate.
I like films from Japan,Taiwan, Hong Kong and even mainland China (with Communist corrective overtones) but generally not Korean films. This fit my category for not appreciating the effort made. The cinematography was good but static.
Perhaps my synopsis will help others feel better if they didn't find this movie as intriguing as most of the reviewers did.
