I went in with low expectations mostly due to the bad reviews I read, however this show exceeded my expectations and dare I say I even enjoyed it. I liked the characters. Though it felt a bit off brand at time from other Star Wars series and shows I loved the seeing the Jedi in their prime, the foundation and the witches. It answered a lot of questions I never ask but a few that I did. Not really much more to say than that. Actors served their roles well, a few good surprises along the way, the biggest regret for this show is that due to the lacklustre ratings we probably will not see the series continue.
From the reviews Ive seen I wanted to watch this because it was deemed to be such a terrible movie, I wondered how bad it could be. I've played through Borderlands 1& 2, and the games had particular charms, amazing shooting mechanics, gore, lots of looting and crude jokes that were not overly funny. The screenwriters delivered in the unfunny jokes, the crudeness and gore was toned down to PG levels, and they took the liberty to rewrite character arcs, motives, and they really missed the 'I can't put my finger on...' the borderland titles that were so relentlessly fun to play. Casting was also way off, minus Jack Blacks claptrap.
Despite the above I didn't hate the film. Each actor preformed well in the roles they were given, the CGI to me was cartoonish but not god awful and I appreciated the shorter run time. Roth is a good director but I'm shocked he didn't try and make this a cool film. With these videos game films they fail often as they don't work hard enough to connect with their core audience. I hope someone takes another shot at this IP as I think there is something there, it was just half assed on the production of this movie.
