I tried, I really tried. Screen time with Ms Karpluk is an enjoyable experience but it was as though there was a psychological experiment to produce new levels of irritating sound track. Nearly every second of this is destroyed by continous looping of music that seems designed to irritate. Line up everyone associated with the musical direction of this and, if not permitted to shoot them, then at least fire them.
Evocation of an England that existed more in legend and imagination that reality, this is listed as drama and comedy whereas it is a romance foremost. The best books and films derive from a solid story and this one draws me back to watch it every year or so, all four episodes flowing along with ease. Farce, comedy, improbability, fun, sex and personal evolution of our hero delivered by an almost faultless cast, script and production. Maria Aitken surely deserves a special mention for delivering the perfect presence of the lady of the manor. No 'spoilers' from me, just watch this. Pretty sure easily available for streaming and downloading from the usual places, enjoy.
The movie was blah blah and not really worth reviewing. But the introduction of the daughter was just so ridiculous I had to comment. The mum/lead looks like she's in her mid thirties and the women addressing her as 'mom' appears to be in her late twenties. I had to look them up to check and yes they're only nine years apart. But the hilarious part is that they are so obviously close in age. Cretinous casting. As imdb imposes minimum word counts these days I'll just add that the lead actress is ok and there is none of the god awful Hallmark style formulae or pizzicato soundtracks but the plot and scriptwriting just lets this down all the way through. If you can sit through the ludicrous lawyers room opening scene you might make it to the end.
