I've enjoyed this show through four seasons, and was really looking forward to the final one. Unfortunately, while Joe, his wife, Brontë and Joe's son all do a good job, and keep up the tension, many of the supporting actors seem to have come straight from a poor improv troupe. The identical twin sister(s), their husband, the half-brother and the gal-pal internet sleuthers in particular all fall way short of the mark, making the whole show a bit of a disappointment. And the long-awaited righteous ending is really, really spoiled by quite absurd magical thinking. Quite surprisingly slack, I'm afraid.
Oh dear. This show focuses on an annoying, self-absorbed journalist who is trying to discover the truth but what is interesting is Julia Garner's performance. It would be much better if they had ditched the boring 'finding out' bits and just let Anna's story tell itself.
I was really looking forward to this second season but episode 1 feels like a crass copy of the original. Perhaps it will develop in the next episode.
