  • A FILM BECOMES DISAPPOINTMENT EVEN WHEN YOU HAD ZERO EXPECTATIONS !!!

Uttam Kumar still is the MAHANAYAK (THE HERO) of tollywood industry.

Neither gossip columns/pulp magazines/flop movies could tarnish Uttam-Supriya's image... nor this film would be ever successful to do so.

ACTING - Saswata Banerjee was brilliant... Rituparna Sengupta even as a cameo actor was fantastic... Biswanath & Srabanti also gave good performances... but most of the amateur actors were really disappointing.

STORYLINE/PLOT- A cheaply catered, one sided tale of a great persona without any nuances of life.

The film is not about Uttam Kumar's cinematic successes or failures... This film is not exactly a biopic... This film is all about Uttam Kumar's first love/wife Gauri devi and HIS infinite affairs... This film illustrates a family drama where Uttam Kumar is being seduced to the dark side by "others" (namely Supriya devi/Benu-di).

Behind all of Uttam Kumar's success & greatness there was Gauri devi (and obviously HIS tremendous discipline)....but behind Uttam Kumar's downfall, HE is never to be blamed... HE was never responsible for HIS choices.

Whether be it, marrying Supriya Devi (Never shown in the film. She just symbolies the downfall of HIS life) without divorcing Gauri Devi... or leading an extremely unhealthy & indisciplined life... or ruining reputations of many women.... HE is never (actually) responsible.

"Chhoti si mulakat" was HIS choice... HIS failure... but Supriya Devi/Benu-di is exclusively blamed for that too in this film.

SCREENPLAY - Poorly written dialogues and scenes...Even telifilms & OTT platform films now have more well researched contents with better cinematic experience.

Uttam Kumar may had a flawless persona on the silver screen... but he was a human being with loads of imperfections... Demonizing his second partner "Benu-di" (that partner is a woman thereby a witch , who can be casted away by some charmed amulets) maybe the easiest way to sell a film... by obscuring truths & nuances of life.

MUSIC - At times appropriate... at times it felt like mixing water with oil.

OVER-ALL EXPERIENCE - I had no intention to write a review for this below average film. My rating is more than enough, to make my opinion clear.

When I read through the reviews of around 3.2k imdb bots with same copy-pasted good review, posted on 23rd July...I just had to share my experience, which was an unpleasant one.

This film is a total waste of time and money... I wouldn't recommend anyone to watch the film even when it streams free on TV.

But then again... I wish that you go to the nearest theatre without your family (torture yourself but don't push your family into this) and share your real experience here....to fight bot ratings/reviews in imdb.

  • 'Nagarkirtan' (Eunuch & The Flue Player). A masterly crafted tale of two souls bound by love.

A tale of true magic of love... that draws our attention about the social prejudices & persecution...which acts as an eternal curse for those who are in love.

With 'kirtan' (devotional songs reciting about the love affair of Krishna & Radha) this film poetically depicts the passionate romance between (Krishna-Radha) Madhu-Punti in three phases 'pronoy', 'abhisar' & 'biroho'.

SCREENPLAY: Three timelines were overlapping with each other & running at a pace of perfect brilliance. So, when it approaches the climax the audience will surely feel the ache of 'Punti' that echoes with the cry of 'Radha'.

ACTING : Director 'Ray' had his 'Soumitra'. 'Kaushik Ganguly' has 'Ritwik'. 'Riddhi Sen' played the perfect female lead...As 'Aparna' for 'Apu'...(As when Sharmila Tagore paired with Soumitra Chatterjee in silver screen for Ray's Apur Sangsar/The World of Apu).

SOUND DESIGNING: Quintessentially appropriate. Communicates every deep emotions of this cinema.

EDITING : Played the most vital part to carry out the tone of this cinema from different timelines into a perfect continuum.

DIRECTION : After 'Cinemawala', 'Shabdo', 'Arekti Premer Golpo' & 'Chhotoder chhobi ', this film is another big contribution to world cinema from the director.

STORYLINE / PLOT : A simple love story which we were denied for 100 years of Indian cinema . India loves cinema & mainly cinema with love stories...no doubt all those thousands of love stories in Indian cinema created us , as who we are. The "story" of this cinema historically is a turning point for Indian cinema which provides us with the magic of love in it's truest sense.

It also removes the blindfold of illusion & lies which was created around love for last 100 years by Indian Cinema.

At the end of the whole journey ... With this spiritual upliftment, you as a person will surely be much more pervious to love & understand LOVE for what is.

A Must watch film...hopefully will be released in netflix for cinephiles around the globe.

  • Big Budget "C" grade movie

Direction - direction with no definite vision....Execution of the film is totally based on delusions of grandeur.

Screenplay adaptation - it fails to become an explorer's journey with thrill & suspence. It fails to become typical B grade monster movies with chase, plastic gore...like anaconda & Jaws...which were 100 times nore entertaining. It fails to become an action , adventured pack fantasy....into which the audience can actually immerse themselves.

It succedes to become a complete mockery of itself...as the housefull audience was actually laughing at many scenes...people were laughing at it's pretentiousness & superficial theme park like experience ( from point A to B of the map) ...and at the themepark like obstacles that has been cheaply catered.

Acting - Dev isn't the only who ruined the film.David James who played Marco Florian & Svetlana Gulakova as Anna Florian also contributed in ruining the film.... David James with his hyperactive, restless, histrionic personality & maniac laughs....Dev with his expressionless monotony....and with their collective ultra fake accents.

Dialogues - No dialogues to some poorly writen one...as kids when plays with "dollhouse" or "pirates" converses with more realistic manner...in more accurate ways...with more convictions. It doesn't matter wheather it's multilingual film...stupid & cheesy dialogues writen/translated in/into any language would sound stupid & cheesy. "Ana my darling daughter...(histrionic expression)...haahaa(maniac laughs of David James)...ohh..my dear daughter..haahaa(maniac laughs again)".

Cinematography , Vfx - amazing locations, good cinematography...with very back dated CGI ( though I can understand the budget of a bengali film)...but repeatative use of those lame CGI action sequence contributed more or less nothing into the storyline. So the movie became just "Props with out a Play".

Production - To make a big budget film like these you need courageous production company...who can make this crap of a movie with confidence (arrogance)....and then can sell everything with created hype. As It seems the production has recovered the money they've invested...with all these multilingual, star casting , christmass release... They should spend more with movies with content (good story line).... where audience will not be dissapointed as such as this.

I'd conclude by saying this....that this isn't a movie for Dev fans...this isn't a movie for fans who love watching hollywood action, adventure fantasy....This isn't a movie for cinephile like us who loves watching world movies....This only can be a Home Video for Kamaleshwar Mukherjee.
