I can't say this is my kind of movie. I've never been, and never will be, a fan of slightly fictional horror films (even if they claim to be based on true events). Still, I liked the cinematography and the background design. Besides the fact that the movie is well shot, they also slipped in, from time to time, a few details for "cinephiles" (e.g all the houses are painted in bright colors, except for the one where the action takes place, which is red thus indicating danger). I also like the actors they perform quite well, but nothing particularly remarkable. What I enjoyed the most in the film were the motorcycles and the cars. Apart from that, it's not an ok form of entertainment.
First thing off, you could tell who's Darren Aronofsky's favorite director. This movie feels like Tarantino's lost apprentice made a film :)). I won't say it's one extraordinary movie, but I sure enjoyed it. I liked the shooting style ( Dop. Knew his stuff) do the excessive grain kinda made the movie lose points. Colors are very smartly used do they aren't so obvious. I enjoyed how the characters varied do the acting wasn't, necessarily, the best. I mean character build up is very cool but some scenes meant to push a feeling didn't feel that realistic. Although the movie is quite unrealistic. Script wasn't something very special either, one thing i loved do is how the director plays with the viewes feelings ( a very tense serios moment cut by a funny line. Many plot twists I enjoyed. But the most notable thing is how interesting and unique each character was. One was meant to represent chaos, one represented corruption etc.
Lovely movie to watch.
Lovely movie to watch.
I'll start by saying that I didn't expect to like this movie so much. One of the friends I watched it with even said that he really enjoyed it, even though he's not the type to get excited about superhero movies and that statement applies to me as well.
I think the first thing you notice about this film is the superb imagery. It's a mix between retro shots and super modern ones, filmed with equipment like electric swing arms and all sorts of CGI shots that are on ducking point. The special effects are really well done, plus the SFX are very cool and used intelligently.
Secondly, I like this idea of Superman not being some superior being, but just an ordinary man who happens to have superpowers. This is very well highlighted through his parents, who are shown as simple country folk. Simple people whose feelings are deeper than anything. It's nice that the story has plenty of action scenes, but also "pause" scenes, giving you a breather before the next action-packed moments. The actors are very well chosen and, although it seems like a "non-serious" movie, it still manages to touch your soul a little bit. I can't say 3D is essential for this film, maybe also because personally, I'm not crazy about 3D movies, but the special effects are very well highlighted, in a way I haven't seen in a long time.
I think the film's message is that Superman could be anyone, which is why the character is so simple.
Good movie.
