The other reviews and all the critical acclaim had me go into this with high hopes. Right off the bad the acting is terrible. Nobody can fake a decent southern accent, much less keep it consistent for two lines. After that it's a combination of racism, victimhood celebration, unrealistic characters,, and plain old nothing as it drags along. The dialogue is hollow and forced. It was a slog to get through. I really don't understand where the hype about this movie came from. I truly can't remember when I saw a movie with this many actors all doing such a terrible job. I feel like the critic taglines and positive reviews came from another movie.
The animation is good and the underlying material is great. Pretty hard not to mess up in fact. Solid Star voice actors. Overall entertaining. The forced DEI girlfriend, which diverges form the source material for no other reason, would be insufferable whether she was black, white, purple or polka dotted. Why they decided to make the main character's love interest an absolutely unbearable b word is beyond me. So yeah, pretty annoying. But the show has enough good points that it's still worth watching. Hopefully it will improve as the seasons go on. No idea why my review has to be 700 characters.
This movie had so many opportunities to redeem itself and never did. Trite snd forced. Ridiculously awful.
