There is nothing faintly funny about this badly done pseudo comedy based on a ridiculous premise with a dreadful script, and awful stereotyping that appears out of place and dated .Catherine Tate's character is wholly unlikeable and rude which somehow we are supposed to find funny, it most definitely is not . It may have worked with characters on previous shows but not here .I hoped it would improve as more characters were introduced but sadly not Catherine Tate is talented but she should not have got involved with this and the BBC should not have commissioned it. A very disappointing use of licence fees and talent.
If this does not win awards there is no justice. The Last Kingdom is outstanding television at every level but the acting in this episode is mesmerising, the interaction between Alfred(David Dawson) and Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) is quite superb I defy anyone not to be moved by it . I
Can't believe this was commissioned the pilot was dreadful but thought I would give it the benifit of the doubt ,big mistake some of the most unendearing characters on tv with a pathetic storyline
