The Truth About Lies is downright one of the most honest & entertaining films I have seen in a long time. Between the all-star cast and charismatic energy that each of them individually, this movie was truly a pleasure to watch. The director of the film, Phil Allocco, did a tremendous job of creating a fresh, unique script that not only held the attention of its audiences, but made them feel for the characters as human beings. The candor and frankness of Gilby's pessimistic demeanor is what I resonated most with to be honest. It seems when one unfortunate event occurs in life, several more follow and that is precisely what happens in the film. His journey of self- discovery complete with laughter-inducing mishaps is one that everyone can relate to. This film is charming, witty and just REAL. After discovering the numerous awards that it has won at various film festivals, it's easy to see why! I cannot recommend this film enough, and I will be looking forward to more projects by Mr. Allocco.
Good Fortune is unlike any documentary I've seen before. With its factual information and authenticity, the film weaves into a narrative about this incredible human being John Paul DeJoria! Good Fortune is about the inspirational journey of JP as he grew from being homeless on the streets of Los Angeles to becoming one of the most charitable billionaires in America. This documentary not only highlights JP's success, but brings forth the importance of giving back to the world you live in, no matter what you have. There are many times in the film that those who are close to JP say how humble he is about his philanthropy and charitable nature, and how he will never speak of the things he does to gain recognition. With that said, the interviews with JP where he directly speaks things in his life that he has done made it so personal and I felt honored to watch it. I recommend Good Fortune because it leaves you with an optimistic, feel-good attitude once you're finished watching it and I think all documentaries should feel that way.
Chief Zabu is absolutely hysterical! A film with a sincerely twisted view of the American Dream with a sardonic tone, which features two business partner buddies who are looking to make a quick buck by investing in the peaceful paradise island of Tiberaku. The 80s style satirical humor is just the right amount of nostalgic and eccentric that will have you laughing the entire time. Definitely a cult classic type comedy film that is sure to be a hit. It's kind of ironic how much this film relates to current times even though it was shot thirty years ago. These bad apples of business have an ongoing banter that is unorthodox and witty, and when their scheme goes south their situations get even more out of hand. It definitely has that Twins vibe to it that emulates the 80s genre so well, and for being shot so long ago, the cinematography is outstanding. Definitely a must-see for those who are into that paradoxical humor that we've seen in so many classic films before.
