To get it out of the way, I'll say Hollywood has a way of messing with history. This movie does a good presentation of the battle of the Little Big Horn. Of course no movie will be absolutely correct. But this movie does the best attempt to tell the story correctly. There are mistakes, most can be overlooked, many of them viewers probably never thought much about certain aspects of The Son Of The Morning Star. I love history, I have five books within two foot from me. I have about 35 other Custer books about five foot away. I have all that are available Custer last Stand movies on DVD. I got Son of The Morning Star on videotape when it first aired on TV in 1991. I did get a DVD recorder, so I made a couple DVD copies. Then a few months ago I did buy a great copy of the program along with behind the scenes from the movie. But enough about me.
I never heard of Gary Cole. Some critics spoke negatively of his. I thought he did good, very good. He looked good on a horse. I notice people when the ride and he did good. We need to remember that these are actors playing the parts.many actors never rode or learn to ride. Being Hollywood I try not to be to picky. This is a great telling of the the story, I watch it often. It's history or based on that historical moment.

I live about 25 minutes from the James Boone massacre site. I seen this at a theater was it first came out in the 1950's.right on the heels of Davy Crockett. It was because these early frontier movies that I started reading what ever I could find. I loved the comic books of these movies, but I moved into nonfiction real fast. I wanted facts. There is a lot of history of Boone's life in this movie. It's true this was made by Hollywood, therefore they do change thins to make interesting. They really didn't need too. I've seen worst on the history channel. They started out good. We didn't get cable , so I missed several years when they were they were the History Channel. Then they when way out to counting cars and Pawn Stars. Watch this as history == you will enjoy it I'm sure.
