I see clearly that it's a British version of the French series Astrid y Raphael, which I really love. However, it's not just a rehash of the same thing. Yes, the premise is the same, but the characters are very different. Patience is played brilliantly by an autistic actress and she is nothing like Astrid. Similarities abound, but the atmosphere is so different. I adore Astrid, but I truly love Patience for different reasons. I am ADHD and have been doing much reading and learning about neurodiversity, and those two characters really present different aspects. None of us are the same. I am really enjoying this series and I do hope there will be more.
People who are upset that a British version of that French series has been created don't quite see that different cultures can provide different perspectives on the same things. I think of so many very successful American series that were based on British programming, just with a different spin. I like originality, but I also appreciate being able to recreate a thing with a different perspective. That's so human and so real.

It's interesting that people either give it high ratings or super low ones. I love it so much! As someone who has been both a stay at home mother and a working mother, I know the difference. Stay at home was soul killing. Working had the guilt at wondering if you did the right thing. But when, on his first birthday, my son greeted his daycare person with joy and enthusiasm, I knew I had chosen well and that it was okay for him to love us both.
Motherhood should never condemn us to being less than we can be. And I love how, in this story, her husband, who initially seemed like a jerk, was really just clueless. Like most men, sadly, but he came around in the end to understand. And sadly many men do not. Feminists don't hate men in general. We just hate that cluelessness they can often exhibit. It's up to them to learn. And the man in this movie did just that.
So much of feminism is about how we can be what we want to be, but doesn't always address the issues of when we want to be mothers. We should never be forced into that role, but it is a secret power of women. This movie addressed that so very well.
