The dialogue is impeccable, full of dignity and emotional and dramatic strength. To bad you can not find this excellent religiously themed fare from Hollywood's golden age any where on disc for under $ 50.00 It is worth it though .The Song of Bernadette is based on a true story. It tells the story of Saint Bernadette Soubirous, a young peasant girl in Lourdes, France, who experienced a series of visions of the Virgin Mary in 1858. The book, written by Franz Werfel, is a fictionalized account of these events, but it is rooted in the historical reality of Bernadette's visions and the subsequent investigation by the Catholic Church.
Jewish author Franz Werfel was escaping the Nazis when he sought refuge in Lourdes.
While there, he was told the story of Bernadette. He said that if he was able to successfully make his escape to freedom, he would write the story.
He was true to his word.
This drama focuses on Bernadette Soubirous (Jennifer Jones), reported seeing a "beautiful lady" in a grotto near Lourdes. These visions continued, and the lady identified herself as the Virgin Mary. Bernadette described the lady's instructions to build a chapel and have people come to the grotto in procession.
Jennifer Jones won an Academy Award.
Beautiful film. She won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the 1943 film "The Song of Bernadette".
Jones is convincing, the supporting players are strong, and the premise is thought-provoking.

Hostiles is a quite interesting western with stunning landscapes, intriguing characters and strong acting performances. It really is a gorgeous film . Captivating screenplay with an intense, gripping performance by Christian Bale.
Rosamund Pike's performance in Hostiles excellent . Her performance as she conveys her palpable pain, distress, and grief, which she communicated through both subtle expressions and visceral reactions. Her character undergoes a significant journey from trauma and hatred to a form of acceptance and new hope, a transformation Pike effectively portrayed.
Hostiles is an unflinching, brutal, yet serene Western with stark, visceral violence; magnificent scenery; a stately pace; and an outstanding character development. Most here will really like this film!
In 1892, legendary Army Capt. Joseph Blocker reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to their tribal land. Embarking on a harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, N. M., to the grasslands of Montana, they soon encounter a young widow whose family was killed on the plains. The travelers must now band together to survive a punishing landscape that's crawling with hostile Comanches and vicious outliers.
