  • Excellent episode

This programme is non-stop high-octane action as the Jackal recalls one dangerous escapade after another and one can't help admiring his bravery and success - after all he speaks multiple languages, is a crack shot and travels on numerous fake passports and his his pro-Palestinian and socialist beliefs make him something of an antihero to admire. His first terrorist acts backfire though (the gun backfiring and the bomb bouncing of the building when he tries to carry out an execution and a bombing in London, for example). He is vain and hypocritical almost to the point of stupidity though - he grew up wealthy with servants and repeatedly complains that left-wing women don't wash and he criticised his own daughter for not wanting to go to Iran as she would have to cover her head, saying that left-wingers complain too much. He also claims repeatedly that he doesn't drink alcohol, even converting to Islam later in his life in Sudan, but numerous witnesses attest to him drinking in this documentary, one claiming he's an alcoholic, and a picture of cans of lager in his house in Sudan is shown in this documentary.

  • Groovy man!

A great bit of sixties psychedelia, somewhat reminiscent of Barbarella and the original Casino Royale film. This is fun to watch if you leave your brain at home. For example, one minute they're dancing in a formal ball and the next they're dressed as cowboys or Hawaiian dancers - not only that but one second they're in the desert and the next on a boat pretending to be pirates! The songs were catchy and fun too, and one of them contained the worst rhyme I've ever heard, rhyming 'arabi', a made-up word were meant to imagine means 'Arabia' with 'be' - this only works if we change the word AND the stress AND the pronunciation!

  • I wanted to like this

I wanted to like this film as the story is a true one that's deeply harrowing and compelling but the way this film depicts things is quite boring and annoying. The focus is entirely on the mother and not nearly enough on the supporting cast who are underdeveloped and thus hard to relate too and not enough time is taken to deal with the trial itself. Not only that but the lynching itself and the aftermath of the trial should've been shown. It's also strange how the mother distorted her vowels while wailing, it sounded like she said 'my chair' not 'my child'! All in all this was a missed opportunity.
