James Gunn might be my favorite writer/director/producer in the industry right now. He knows exactly what needs to be done in order to create emotional investment in characters, while still entertaining the larger audience.
With that in mind, I think that Superman is an excellent start to the new DCU. The casting is excellent, the score slaps and I'm eagerly waiting to see these characters again on the big screen.
My biggest gripes with this film are the Justice Gang and the lack of Clark Kent moments.
1. The Justice Gang. While I enjoyed their scenes, specifically those involving Mr. Terrific, I think that their introduction would have been better in a Superman sequel. At times, they distracted from the story I wanted to watch.
2. We needed a little more Clark Kent. There is honestly only a handful of scenes with Superman out of costume and I needed a bit more of that. Whether it was with Lois, Ma and Pa Kent or the crew at the Daily Planet, I just needed a little more.
Small gripes aside, I found a lot of joy while watching this film. There is a brightness to this version of Superman, both physically and emotionally. I'm stoked for what is to come.
Best Character: Krypto Best Quote: "Your choices, your actions, that's what makes you who you are." - Pa Kent Best Scene: The Night Scene with Everything Happening Outside Best Piece of Score: "Last Son"

59th movie watched in the IMDb Top 250
I love the city of Philadelphia. There is a lot of heart in the city of brotherly love and that is captured here in "Rocky".
I think that the underdog story is beautiful, the finale is strong and the character of Rocky and his endless rambling is interesting. I would have liked more boxing (there is really only the scene at the beginning and the end), more Apollo Creed and more depth to the side characters.
This film is a classic for a reason. The music is phenomenal and it opened the gate for many more sports dramas to come.
Best Character: Rocky Best Quote: "I was nobody. But that don't matter either, you know? 'Cause I was thinkin', it really don't matter if I lose this fight. It really don't matter if this guy opens my head, either. 'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood." - Rocky Best Scene: Running the Stairs Best Piece of Score: "Going the Distance"

What's in the box?
Man, this movie is dark (both physically and mentally/emotionally).
While I greatly enjoyed this film, I had heard a lot about the "twist ending". Don't get me wrong, I think that the ending is phenomenal... but I wouldn't call it a twist. A surprise ending or jarring ending is probably more fitting. For me, a twist ending is something that makes you question the entire plot and need to re-watch it immediately ("Fight Club", "A Beautiful Mind" and "Get Out" fall into this category). A good surprise ending makes you leave the theater stunned, but not necessarily itching for a re-watch.
Putting that aside, I was glued to the screen during "Se7en". The premise is unique, the acting is superb and the pacing is strong throughout. A great mystery with a killer ending.
Best Character: Somerset Best Quote: "Ernest Hemingway once wrote, "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." I agree with the second part." - Somerset Best Scene: The finale Best Piece of Score: "Somerset"
