By now it goes without saying that if you want to experience Death Note, go watch the series. This movie feels like a cheap knock-off in comparison. That also makes it hard to rate (for me) as, while it's not a good representation of show outside of basic concept, I do really enjoy the film.
For my part, looking at this as a teen supernatural crime thriller, it's pretty entertaining. Willem Dafoe is always fun, and I like the way the film is put together, the visual and sound editing, and the use of the sound track. That it ends with one of my old favourite songs definitely lifts it up in my view. No, it's not an amazing movie, but I like it anyway!

It opens with a quote from Leviticus and that pretty much sets up the film. It might just be the film style, but I got Häxen vibes from it.
Stop motion, strange worlds, no dialogue, the movie is predominantly a visual experience. Look away for too long and the scenery and the subjects will have completely changed. There is a story you can piece together but for the most part, I'd say this movie is spectacle. It's artistically fascinating, a walk through an apocalypse, but it's definitely not for everyone.
If you're the type that likes to walk through art galleries and museums, then I'd definitely recommend it. But, if you're after a clear story or I suppose anything more like a traditional film, it might be a pass.

This is definitely a film with The Thing vibes, as people have already said. As such, there is a certain degree of predictability to the story if you are familiar with The Thing. What I enjoyed about this film were the character details, lines, and moments where the film went in its own direction from the basic plot of human crew encounters unknown organism and tries to survive it. It's a solid and popular storyline (eg The Thing, Leviathan, Alien, etc.,) so it really does come down to the differing details and a like what Blood Glacier does. I can't go into detail without spoilers, but it's worth the watch.
