  • James was here but should not have come

Comedy is obviously subjective but James Acaster's quirkiness just doesn't gel with the format of this show.

It was as painful as watching Meg Ryan being interviewed by Michael Parkinson and if the awkwardness of watching that interview could be transformed into a real life guest on TravelMan, even the real life embodiment of teeth being pulled would be more entertaining.

Apparently my review needs to be 600 characters so even the boring ramblings I now seem to be wandering into would be more entertaining than watching this episode so save yourself and give it a miss.

I bet James Acasters mum wouldn't even watch it so why should you.

  • Ignore the haters and stick with it

You could (as others would have you) turn this episode off after a few minutes or ignore it altogether BUT you would be missing out on an important plot device and story development.

Yes, this episode has you thinking to yourself early on, "what am I watching" but suffice to say, any dream/coma/imagination scene will be subjective but get past the 30mins and you'll be given a key development about Q, about how Picard views Q and the possible what and why Q is doing this. It sets the series up for the reveal, the prestige if you will.

TNG and all other Trek series before Discovery and Picard were self contained episodes and this is a series long story arc fitting with the times. Monsters isn't a filler episode but yes it could have been better developed but that shouldn't detract from the last 15mins and how it moves the story arc along. It's a pivotal realisation by Picard.

Stick with it, don't believe everything the haters will tell you.

  • Joe's here, But should he have come? YES

Richard was a great host and thoroughly enjoyable to watch but Joe is equally great in a different way.

Where Richard was an aloof person (or if that's a character of his) it was a joy to watch but with Joe, he's more accessible and with Bill Bailey the chemistry between the two really enhanced the episode as it was like two great (and funny) friends on a trip.

The format of the show is still evident with the production team picking out quirky points of interest to keep the show light and fun.

    Looking forward to more.
