  • Good movie, with a mid lead

Coleman is the least authentic actor in the whole thing and his constant lip smaking is the most insufferable actor quirk I have ever witnessed.

The inmates who play inmates are good/great.

Good actors all around, especially the secondary character whose name I couldn't catch. ( Clarence Maclin).

Aaannyway, it's a fine movie, wish the character were more fleshed out, or that there was a more evident photograph of the suffering that goes on in prisons.

A bit of a forced drama at the end there, where I didn't really feel the connection between the main character and his hispanic friend. Would've carried more weight if there was more chemistry between the actors imo.

  • Good but not worth the hype

Maybe I was swayed too much by the enthusiastic reviews, but I didn't find the wild robot as coherent and deep as some reviewers made it out to be.

Seeing the first HowToTrainYourDragon (one of my favourite movies) of all time was written by the same guy , and the trailer seemed to touch upon some admittedly deep topics, I thought this movie would follow suit.

But on most levels, I have to admit it was a surprisingly flat experience, not bad by any metric, but surely below expectations. The first 20 minutes are beautiful, but a bit slow and don't seem to establish much of a plot, the film peaks at around halfway with some strong emotional beats, but ultimately disappoints in a safe and predictable third act.

  • Hamfisted message and poorly written character

So the movie paces well enough until the middle of the second act, where characters start being jerks for no real reason ( or at least reason which is properly shown and justified to the viewer) and insert a hamfisted message about all men being murderers.

Suspects just hide things from the police and act erratically to create mystery and suspence ( which is fine to a certain degree), when they realistically they would just do those things in a normal way.

Main characters act and say things just to create drama amongst themselves when realistically they would just mumble to themselves and carry on with their day.

The movie feels like it has no real purpose other than to tell you that bad things happen sometime, and it's kinda men's fault. ( I'd agree with the message told if there were a bit more substance to it) There is little to examine with more depth than that, as a stone faced investigator chugs along an investigation with no real clues, and no resolution.
