When this series started, I enjoyed it. The creators have succeeded in delivering the traditional saint Nicolas feel.
However, my pleasure reached a high note when Don van Dijke entered the series as character Smartpiet. StNick fans know Don from earlier TV series (dating back to as early as 1997) in which he played Chefpiet (also a Black Piet). His character from Slot Marsepeinstein is quite similar and thus could be seen as a continuation. Don's acting is fantastic and his presence makes the series enjoyable for the older audience.
My final compliment goes to Alexander van Heteren as Hoofdpiet, of which his fame reaches a highlight in his final season (the 4th - De Pietenacademie / 2013). It is still a shame he had to leave the series and his replacement will probably never reach his greatness.
I rate this series with an 8 in it's 4th season (2013), the only reason it does not deserve a 10 is because the role of Don van Dijke could have been bigger.

Grewing up I quite enjoyed this series. After the departure of star Don van Dijke (Chefpiet) it was still quite enjoyable, but after 10 seasons it is worth noting that his presence in later seasons would have given the series it's final completion. I rate this series a 9, the presence of Don van Dijke in later seasons would have made it worth a 10.
