If they wanted to make their own vampire story they should have just done it and called it something else. This show is like someone just skimmed the books.
The books weren't amazing but this is worse.
I liked the movie better, it was cheezy and overdramatized but it leaned into it rather then each performance being unironically overdone.
What I will say, is that I am probably not the shows target audience. I'm sure a teen looking to loose themselves in a dramatic fantasy will love it. But even then, I'd recommend the books.
Also, the sets were beautiful and I enjoyed the detail. The costumes were fin too.
