It could be so much better. The entire show is slowly but surely sliding into meaninglessness. It would be good if a decent story could breathe some life back into the series. Instead, it relies on a political message that is served up with a sledgehammer. It comes across as so clumsy and predictable that the real message behind it is completely lost and that makes it impossible to take it seriously. From episode to episode, more splatter effects are used, there is even more swearing, and I believe this is to hide the thin story behind it. Not much happened in the first three episodes. There were only a few moments where you really had to pay attention so as not to lose track, but that's mainly because you don't really remember what happened in the relatively confusing and overloaded first season. Of course, you could watch this season again, but to be honest, it's too uninteresting.
Some interesting shots and camera angles cannot hide the thin storyline, which then descends into complete ridiculousness at the end. What were the producers thinking? You could see it as a break with convention, but I think it's complete nonsense. Maybe they're speculating on a sequel, but what would that look like? A mixture of The Walking Dead and Escape from L. A.? There were some good ideas and at times the film was really exciting, but the more time passed, the more uneasy I became, because not much had really happened that resembled a story. I just thought, hey guys, time is running out, if you want to tell us something, you'd better hurry! But then there wasn't much else except wagging .... and a few phrases about death and dying and then the completely crazy ending.
I don't understand people who always criticize the end of a season because it doesn't end the way they want it to. It was the same with Dexter: New Blood. An episode is criticized because it has an ending that some people don't like. What's the point of that? I liked the mood and the story of Dexter:New Blood better. The new season, on the other hand, is closer to the original. Both have their charm. I can recommend this season again. The pacing is good, as are the characters. There are a few inconsistencies, but that doesn't detract from the overall quality.
