Rather than focusing on Manto's personal life this movie depicts the story of manto's struggle and misery during and after the partition of India and Pakistan. How he gained the idea of writing such stories where he had spoken about the unacceptable truth of the society.
This movie also portrays the story behind his most controversial short stories such as " Thanda gosht, Khol do, dus Rupay" and how he faced the trial when he was charged for obscenity.
In the movie, the director, Nandita Das, astutely blended Manto's life with his own stories and that seems very interesting to me as I had already gone through few of the Manto's stories before.
As expected Nawazuddin did justice to his role with his method acting but I was very much mesmerized by the brilliant acting of the lady who played the role of the Manto's wife.
Finally, This movie is worth watching especially for those who love the work of the great Sadaat Hassan Manto.

Here, this movie has a pretty good story actually but poor acting and lack of enough make-up made this movie very poor. I Don't know about indonesian movies a lot. See, if u observe this movie, u will notice lack of acting skills particularly from the child who played the part of Banyou! Then the lady who played the part of Radin's mother! I mean her acting literally sucks!!! And the poor cinematography!! Think, If u were in hospital and u had surgery how would you look then? Think? Got it? No? Let me guide you! Remember Radins face or look after the operation? I mean he looked as fresh as ever. Come on man, you just had an operation, you were in the hospital where is gloominess or tiredness in your face? The director should have worked on this small things! Now the worst part. When Kinara, Radin, and Banyou were childs their mother and granny were younger but after 10 years when the grew up in the movie their mother and granny looked the same!!!! No sign of age! I mean how? U could make them look old! That's why You have make-up artist for. U are making a movie, u must need to get the fact right. Okay, so these are things I Didn't like at all. I know opinions vary! Thank you!
