But for old boomers like me who enjoyed the original Spinal Tap, there are plenty of laughs.
My wife and I wandered into a theater when the original Spinal Tap was released in 1984. We were just looking to kill some time with a matinee and had no idea what the movie was about. We were the only two people in the theater. After a few minutes we appreciated what a brilliant mockumentary it was. Hilarious.
Fast forward to September 18, 2025 and Spinal Tap, the End Continues... my wife and I and one other person were the only viewers in the theater.
There are some moments that don't work perfectly but overall a very funny sequel. We laughed... a LOT.
But if we hadn't seen the original I doubt we would have understood a lot of the humor in this sequel.

I just wish it had gone on longer.
The humor is dark, twisted and often absurdist. The writing is great, the acting is excellent. These characters are engrossing and so much fun to follow through the series.
The one star reviews are rather funny. Some people just don't 'get it'. But I can easily see some people looking at the title and expecting some kind of trite thriller. This is so much better than that. But I think that might have been part of the reason that this didn't get wider viewership. The title seemed to imply something different.
I will definitely watch this series again and I can't often say that.

I am a non-Mormon who has lived in Utah for the last 45 years. The writers caricatured Mormon culture, though they did make some good points about this odd religion, its history and its charlatan originator. But this would have been much more interesting, I think, as a documentary. "Murder Among the Mormons", done as a documentary about Mark Hoffman was fascinating in a way this Hollywood-ized TV show is not.
