Another poor offering from Channel 5. Couldn't work out if this was supposed to be a comedy or a drama. The characters are all wooden and unlikeable. The plot, if you can call it that, is so unbelievable and as the story progressed (slowly) I was losing the will to live as I just couldnt care less for any of the characters involved. My advice is to save a few hours of your life and give this a miss.
This was a very moving drama, that did full justice to the story of Ann Ming and her murdered daughter Julie Hogg.
Sheridan Smith is presently one of the UK's finest acting talents and her portrayal of Ann was absorbing and powerful. She captured the fighting qualities of Ann and the emotional turmoil she endured throughout the process of ending the double jeopardy law.
The whole cast were good in their roles, acting of the highest standard. Emotionally this is a very tough watch but ultimately a rewarding one.

I am a bit suprised at so many bad reviews. I personally felt that this was a very well made, thoughtful production about an insecure and lonely woman who was open to manipulation by a very clever narcissist. She was a woman with bad anxiety issues, desperate to be cared for since the loss of her father, the one person she loved and trusted. Ultimately the story was about trust, and she had not trusted anyone other than her late father. When Joe comes along, she is initially uncertain about him but such is his skill of manipulation she quickly falls for him. Yes there are many red flag instances where many think she should have been aware that she was being strung along with lie after lie, but i think she was mixed up and not thinking properly, just enjoying his company and feeling appreciated.
This was well written and well acted. It was a warning to women not to be taken in by manipulators and there are many of them out there. Its a heartbreaking story but its worth a watch.
