This is a fun show, not ever too serious, and Carrie Preston's character Elsbeth has a fun quirky personality that keeps you engaged.
Over all the casting is really good, especially the guest stars. My only complaint is Ben Levi Ross playing her son Teddy. I can't stand whenever he's on the screen because he has an obnoxious grin on his face no matter what emotion he's supposed to be showing. Aside from his acting, the character seems poorly written.
The reason I say this show is like Scooby-Doo is the fact they always encounter the killer immediately, and Elsbeth always knows who the killer is almost immediately. Her interactions with the killers are always tame and goofy, and no one is ever in danger.

It's extremely difficult to find a show with both good writing and good acting in 2025, but Matlock pull it off.
Kathy Bates is amazing! The way she can take her character from headstrong and confident to meek in frail from scene to scene is outstanding. Honestly I love the entire cast.
The writing is intelligent and intriguing, and each episode leaves me wanting more.
The reason I say it's almost perfect, is because like everything these days.

I'm sure this show was the bomb in 2002, but it sucks in 2025.
Naruto, the character is incredibly annoying and the show is possibly the slowest developing show I've ever seen, pretty comparable to Dragonball Z. Episode after episode of filler, and flashbacks.
Granted I only got 18 episodes into the first season, but the last 10 episodes have been a fight on a bridge with almost not actually fighting. Just standing around talk about their emotions and having flashbacks. Anyone trying to sell you on this show is just doing so out of nostalgia not actually because of a quality watching experience.
There are so many great anime these days, this one is just not worth the time.
