  • A Gem of the 70's

This won't be everybody's cup of tea, however it is a much better version than even the Richard Chamberlain versions are. Chamberlain did a fine Quatermain, MacNee does it very, very well though. As does Ken Gampu playing Umpslopogas as he did with Richard Chamberlain's version playing Umbopo.

From the beginning to the end, this is not a highly polished or high dollar production, but it is very well done for the era it was made in. As a bonus for the guys, somehow they even slipped in quite a few "native" girls jiggling their jigglers in a dance scene.

The plot was done with the standard formula of: Old gentleman telling the story of Lost Treasure, the travel to the Dark Continent, the river with alligators. Then jiggers jiggling, the bad guys (native priests in this case, again) haughty queen, lost treasure, and tragedy while the last three finally walk off into the setting sun.

Don't enter with high expectations of lavish sets and multitudes of extras being killed, used, or dying and this can be a good viewing.

  • More Fun Than Most B Movies By Far!

This movie was made to make fun of itself plus so much from the old Police Academy movies. If you can't stomach the first part of the movie, you're in the wrong genre, but the last battle, the last twenty minutes of this movie are fan-freakin-tast-tic! Marty is the character from Police Academy who always had all the right sound effects for every occasion, and he does the same schtick in this movie, and does an outstanding job at it.

Colt is Steve Gutenburg's character and he does an amazingly good performance of a guy trying to remain relevant despite being a One-Hit Wonder actor. The whole movie is a series of spoofs on the actual movie plot with so many Easter Eggs from the Police Academy movies that it became a contest to see who would catch the most. My personal favorite was Pirate Jack bemoaning the loss of "The Blue Oyster", that was a funny line he used.

All in all, this movie has a lot to offer. I hope it won't take forever for the sequel to hit free Prime.

  • No. Shove A # 2 Pencil In Your Eyes Instead

I couldn't do it, just couldn't although I tried. I made it half way through before I threw up in my mouth and had to abort the mission.

As a former 'Nam era USN Sailor, this movie is wrong on so many fronts, it simply beggars the imagination, even for a SyFy movie production.

I like cheesy, horrible, terrible plot, lousy acting B Movies as or more than the next guy (or gal), but this is just wrong.

The writers, directors and actors are all from an alternate universe or have taken steroids and heroin for so long they're no longer able to think coherently.

Beyond calling sailors "soldiers", using a Morse code generator to communicate with a diving bell and not one of the various officers having the correct insignia on their uniforms, there is no part of this movie with a connection to the Fundamental Laws of the Universe.

Up is down, and a Lie is Truth. And the truth is, if you try to watch this movie, it will literally kill brain cells in yours and your neighbor and your neighbors cats head, permanently.

The big fish is the bet actor in this movie, by far.
