This film was made as a finale attempt to save the company from bankruptcy. Obviously, it didn't work and rightfully so. All of the Gamera footage is recycled from previous films. This is not the first time they've done this in the franchise but in those prior films, it was only a few moments. In this film, every single scene is recycled from previous films, so it begs the question - Why waste your time on it? If they couldn't put forth the effort to make an original film then why bother wasting the time watching it? It's truly nothing but garbage and the lowest point of this franchise without question.
It almost borderlines on being so bad that it's good but it is still bad. The parts with Gamera are solid but everything else leaves a lot more to be desired. Visually, it doesn't age well. The sub-plot with the boy and his missing turtle is simply idiotic and takes so much out of the film. And the main plot is as generic as you'd expect it to be, which isn't surprising considering it is essentially a Godzilla knock-off.
Don't get me wrong, I can totally understand why someone likes Gamera but if you truly want to get into the character, I honestly wouldn't recommend this as a jumping point. Especially if you're trying to stream it.
