I loved it, and I didn't think I would. It starts off slow, focusing on diffusing every expectation the viewer might have. Then it kicks into second gear, revealing its true form and keeping that energy until the end. It's been a while since I laughed this much, even to tears! That alone is such a welcome feeling. I had started to think movies like this didn't exist anymore. It's delightfully tongue-in-cheek, and for once it leaves out all the political, sexual, controversial, and racial angles, letting itself just be a silly, lighthearted story. So thank you to whoever made this piece of entertainment.
I remember watching it and having a fun time. I didn't think it through back then, or more simply, I wasn't able to. Today, it's all different. I'm stunned at how well Gracie's character is written. If you're not ready to catch the subtleties, this movie will remain fun, but if you just open your eyes a little more, you're deeply touched.
Defining this movie as about the character being a diamond in the rough would be too cliché, but this diamond has layers. You'd think it's about an ugly duckling transforming into a princess, but it's more about someone who gave up on life, afraid to reach out and look inside herself. When Gracie is confronted with something romantic, she starts singing like a child, as if a simple moment could reset her entire life.
I won't elaborate on the depths of this movie, but to whoever wrote it, if you read this review, please know that I was touched, and I thank you.

The movie starts great and shows its ambitions right from the starts, but, then, there's a drop of quality in the writing, then another in the directing shortly after, then in the editing, then in the visuals. And it ends up like many other cheap 3D movie, without sparks, real humor, or appealing visuals. You really can feel the gradual drop in quality over the movie and I can't shake off the feeling that something had happened in the middle of the making and they had to squeeze out whatever they had to satisfy a deadline or just to finish the film. It kind of makes me feel sad for the ones who worked on the project, it was promising.
