This is a mesmerising blend of powerful storytelling, a masterfully-crafted direction and some really good acting performances. Oh, did I mention the soundtrack?
Each sequence feels like a cake being baked in layers : one layer serving as base for another. No sequence ever feels out of place for a plot that could easily have been made into a travesty.
A plot that seems to be hackneyed when you first read about this film or perceive from the trailers, actually never is. It carefully lingers along the fine edges of family idiosyncrasies ; each interaction feels earned and no opportunity is ever wasted.
Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones give one of their best acting performances as a washed-up musician and a gorgeous exchange student respectively. Each interaction between them feels realistic and you start feeling for them as the plot progresses.
Amy Ryan acts just with her eyes with a finesse that never ceases to amaze you. Mackenzie Davis is a find; considering this to be her first major role in a motion picture.
Coming to the soundtrack, the first thing I did after the movie ended was to look for the music composition that makes this movie what it is. The interactions mentioned above probably won't have a lasting effect as they did with such ethereal music compositions ringing in the background.
Breathe In is a movie one breathes in and experiences firsthand how a myriad of subtle yet powerful human interactions affects our emotions which we express. A unique family drama for sure.
Rating : 9/10.

First of all, Benedict Cumberbatch deserves all the awards for this series, this year. Period.
You've never seen him like that before.
The series is so uniquely crafted which communicates the story in just 5 episodes without making you wander off anywhere else. Jennifer Jason Leigh has given one of her best performances ever. This series made me laugh, and at times even emotional. I don't think this has ever happened before in a series less than a single-digit number of episodes.
The fabulous performances of the cast and the unique style of direction makes it compelling to watch by putting you in the passenger's seat with Patrick(Benedict) on your side in the driver's seat. This is quality TV at it's best.
