Im not sure if this movie fits perfectly in the drama catergory, but i guess it fits there more than any other and it plods along at a decent pace.
The plot revolves around the life of a dying man called chuck and is done in reverse order for what seems no reason.
The acting is pretty good from everyone involved and i admire the artistic flair of the story, but i have lots of issues with this movie that spoilt it for me. Firstly i found the constant narrated exposition incredibly annoying. It was like i was listening to someone narrating whinnie the pooh to a child. Also this movie had far too much woo woo in it. We cannot have premonitions of deaths so clear they are like ghosts. Sure there are people that claim that there is, but them we call lunatics. Plus no, the stars, the formation of earth and carbon dating have nothing to do with maths, it is science. Films should not be teaching pseudo-science.
IGNORE THE OVER-RATING BAFFOONS, THIS IS NOT THAT GOOD OF A MOVIE.

I will start by giving a caveat to my review in that i only watched half of this movie, so it may have got better, however i doubt it. Giving up on a movie is something ive only done a handful of times, but i couldn't stomach any more of this trash.
This is one of the worst written movies i think i have ever seen.
The general idea is fine, thief steals paintings that will give clues to the whereabouts of the Fountain of Youth; where the water is said to give 'great health, wealth and happiness', but the execution of this idea is simply done so badly its unwatchable. The screenplay is diabolical, and with a script with more exposition than any films ive ever seen, i wonder if a junior school pupil could have written a better film. One example of this would be where Portmans character says "we're not thieves" as she and her Brother 'steal' a Rembrandt painting from the Lucitania.
The action scenes also look so false, whoever choreographed them needs to be fired.
The acting is no better, only Portman gives an acceptable performance, everyone else looks as if they're trying too hard.
People that are comparing this to National Treasure are out of their minds. Nic Cage may be not Oscar worthy but even he can carry his 2 movies because they are exciting, feel more mature and are not cringey like this is.
Anyone that gives this more than 6 out of 10 cannot have seen many movies or is working for the company, because there is no way anyone can watch this and conclude it is written well.

As a player of Minecraft for almost a decade, I have waited a very long time for this and unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait.
The main problem with this movie is the plot. It just isn't that interesting, it follows the same path as so many other movies that came before it. If they have gone down the 'player' is the character route, (Like in Jumanji) they would have appealed far more to the Minecraft player base. That's what we want to see, not a run of the mill snooze-fest. In fact i was more interested by sub plot about a villager than the main story. The script isn't much better, with cliches and over-acted scenes to try to generate a reaction, They might have well nodded and winked at the camera. Sure i get it's a kids movie at heart, but kids are not dumb, don't treat them as if they are by giving such corny lines.
Another issue i have is the casting. The kids are just fine, nothing special but not terrible, but Jack Black and Jason Mamoa are badly cast. Black isn't as loveable as he thinks he is and Mamoa isn't as funny as he thinks he is. And together they are have no chemistry at all.
It's not all critizism i have though, i like all game references, like the 'first house' and 'chicken jockeys', and of course the Technoblade reference is perfect, but sadly it just feels as if this was made by people that knew about Minecraft but are not Minecraft gamers. Watch some of the Youtube Minecraft Short stories for a much better, more in tune take on such an iconic game.
