  • The only authentic thing was the mud

This film claims to be based on a true story. I'm not sure what one, other than the fact World War I existed.

Clearly this was made on a shoe string however with a good story and engaging characters it could have still been worthwhile unfortunately it had neither. The simplistic story was so thin you could see through it, the action scenes had no connection with any broader tactical or strategic goals which may have given it some meaning.

Ultimately no story, full of cliches and some indifferent acting.

Looking for positive's, I can suggest the trench depictions and some of the boardwalks felt relatively realistic, Can't recommend this film.

  • Unfortunate

I waited all year for this, Ridley Scott and one of the greatest historical stories, what could possibly go wrong.

It's hard to work out what went wrong. It just didn't connect, maybe the story was too big to fit into a film, maybe some miscasting, maybe convenient circumsized versions of the battles and just a pinch of poor acting (in one or two characters).

However there were still a few elements worthy of note and it kind of covered Napoleon's entire career. I found the Josephine element interesting however I'm not sure how accurate as this is a pert of history I'm unfamiliar with.

Hopefully this is an aberration for Ridley.

  • Funniest parts were in the trailer

Mildly interesting albeit silly at the start.

However just when you thought it would be saved by the Game of Thrones star ..... it doesn't

We got to the end but felt like a wasted night.
