I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but Wicked is a good movie. I'm not usually into musicals-La La Land was the only exception-so I waited until I was in the right mood to watch Wicked. I'm glad I did.
The opening scene was cheesy and honestly not a great start, but once you get past that, it gets really good. The most powerful part of the movie is the storyline. I haven't read the book or seen the Broadway show, but bravo to the writer-it's touching and paints a beautiful picture of friendship.
Some people complain it's too long. Yes, it's almost three hours, and I had to watch it over two nights. But it didn't feel like it dragged. It takes its time building up each character, and I think the length works.
Now let's talk about the cast. Cynthia Erivo is the standout-her voice and acting are incredible. Ariana Grande... I'm not a big fan of hers, and at first, she was kind of Barbie-level annoying. But as the story progressed, I have to admit-she's the perfect fit for this role.
Jonathan Bailey-I haven't watched Bridgerton and never thought much of him before, but he looks great in this movie. The rest of the cast? Not amazing, not terrible-just okay.
Overall, this movie really grew on me. I actually can't wait for part two. 7/10.

Snooze fest. The whole movie is just three actors-great if you're a Zendaya fan, since she's in every second of it. Also, it goes back and forth on the past and present, very annoying and a bit hard to follow. The worst part? The techno music. It kicks in at the weirdest moments, and I simply don't get why. I also don't get the ending. Did I waste an hour and a half on this? Yes.
Lastly, I looked up the director-same guy behind Bones and All, another slow burn, but at least that one was totally messed up. This one is just slightly more watchable, but still not worth it. I have concluded that I should just avoid watching any movies by this director.
