I have a poor attention span and I had to restart the first episode several times because I kept losing interest. I did finally watch it and while it was good there are some time frame issues. Mainly the gay character, Carlos, it is out of place in the time period for him to be so comfortably out due to much more extreme bigotry of the time. Also storyline issues that do not match Supernatural. I do feel all of the bad reviews are unwarranted, especially when looking at the story line issues between the parent show and the spinoff. Ok so John didn't know about hunting until Mary had died. His father was not part of hunting either. At least that is what we know from Supernatural which I was and still am a huge fan. The thing people seem to forget is that Supernatural was from the POV of the brothers and an episode for Baby, but John may not have told Sam and Dean certain things. Memories are not 100% true to historical fact. Emotions and being human can change memories OR more likely John may not have told his kids the whole truth. Regardless, it is an installment of Supernatural, unfortunately it is not with Sam and Dean so if you try to compare this to Supernatural you will hate it. If you look at it as an installment that may provide John and Mary's first TRUE adventures in when first meeting, from a true historical perspective and not based on what John told them. Who knows. I want to enjoy this without overanalyzing.
Losing Psych left a void in my TV series. This show is only similar to Psych: Similar abilities, works with polices, solves crime, hilarious, but it stands on its own and is not a ripoff. This show was a happy surprise. I was drawn to this show solely for Kaitlin Olson, but then i saw my favorite Latina actress Judy Reyes who I find so easy to connect with. Her acting skills are so underrated but because I saw Judy Reyes snd Kaitlin Olson I had to watch. The cast for this is very strong. It is very much like Psych while being completely different in so many great ways. I am a Psych fan obviously and the premise for the show gives me some excitement that we will have Kaitlin, Judy, and cast to entertain us for many seasons! Hopefully ABC is smart enough to keep it going and keep Everyone I have seen so far in this show.
I really like Kaitlin Olson but only saw her in Always Sunny and The Mick, some other 'small' appearances too. Never watch Hacks (yet). However her roles tend to be the same immature, snarky, quick witted, intelligent, 'one of the guys' girls every guy likes to hang with but she takes it to an over exaggerated and brilliant level, but this is not a complaint as she is brilliant and plays upon her strengths. I see her more vulnerable here as it is more a responsible adult comedic role that requires a wide array of emotions, comedic timing, and really dramatic acting chops and she nails it completely.
There is something about Judy's eyes, and facial expressions that always unintentionally puts the focus on her. Watching these 2 ladies in a room together makes it gold as they both are phenomenal.
