This film really does it for me. Kidman is fantastic and so are all the other cast members. The children are perfectly cast and put in great performances. Even though I've seen this film many times it's one I never tire of watching. The music and cinematography are top notch. The story and atmosphere are perfect. For me this film evokes a feeling that you get from the golden years of cinema- I find it hard to put my finger on but I love the way the film creates a steadily building mood and atmosphere built on themes of sorry and grief. This is one of my all time favourite films that I feel should get more praise and recognition.
I loved this show. Charlotte Gainsbourg was great - I think this is the first time I've seen her in something comedic and she carries off the role perfectly. There are so many details in the series - and the characters are all so clearly defined and quirky. I liked the light comic tone of the show as a whole - light but with a depth - assembled with love and sensitivity. Lou de Laâge as Cheyenne Toussaint was a fantastic force of nature (as was her mother!) I loved Simon Callow as Crispin Shamblee - the way he kept popping and doing unexpected things - sly and sinister and charming. But everyone in the show did a brilliant job. And then there's the dancing! Wow! So brilliant to be treated to such amazing talent. Wow... I would have loved to have been able to bask in this series for a few more seasons - but what we have is a series to treasure. It is an interesting meditation on the arts and the importance of creativity in a world of commercialism and consumer throw-away. I'd love to see more programmes like this spotlighting dancers and giving a wider platform to see into the world of dance and the art. More! Encore!
Totally enjoyed the first season and was looking forward to seeing more. I watched half of the second season until I realised I was watching a turgid overdramatised soap opera. So so poor. Lots of episodic plots that boil down to nothing just keeping all the characters stomping around looking anxty. Tries to tie into the zeitgeist without saying anything of interest. Boring stuff. Such a shame as I like a lot of the actors including John Hamm and Jennifer Aniston. Although Stephen Fry was diabolically terrible in his role it felt like lazy casting and his acting was so poor and unconvincing.
