The first time I watched this movie I was left in tears. As it covers a topic we all know so much about, you'd think that you are prepared for the emotional storyline, however it reveals the true extent of the horrific reality of being Jewish during WW2 in such an emotional way that you feel a genuine sense of devastation after watching it. This movie serves as a grim but much needed reminder of why we must never let history repeat itself. Whilst parts of the movie are bloody, it doesn't rely on visual gore to portray it's purpose and that is important. And, as far as I could tell, it was historically accurate throughout.
Unfortunately, after finishing the film I felt like I wasted my time watching it. It's like a sci-fi horror drama, which is quite a mash up of genres, and it had potential to be good but the lack of storyline let it down big time.
It starts intriguingly, and quickly gets bizarre. Once the aliens have come into play, it starts to become very disjointed and this is where it falls apart for me. You have the easy-to-guess mystery of what the protagonist did to make everyone hate her, and you have the very random appearance of aliens. These two things clash in a way that just seems ridiculous. If the writers had left out the protagonist's past and just made this a sci-fi film, then it would have been much better. To try and weave the two things into one film was just distracting and didn't work.
The ending is the worst part. During the entire film I felt like I was persevering with watching it just so that I could at least see what the director was trying to do, but when I saw how completely random and unbelievable the ending was, I felt cheated. I don't want to spoil it for anyone thinking of watching it, so I won't specify why it was such a let down, but let's just say that it was so ridiculous that it will make you wish you hadn't bothered watching it at all.
