  • A very good job on the cinematography

I was the cinematographer on this film and I think that I did a very good job.

The film is shot in a talking head format, where both stars are interviewed and explain how they got to become world champions. As it turns out there is more to it than taking the bus over to the stadium.

The main weakness is that there is not much b roll in between. This can lead to long stretches of not much happening and it can be a bit slow but still informative. What b roll is used is very exciting and action-orientated.

The main stand out is the cinematography. Its very sharp with a bold colour scheme of red and black. It makes the action very striking in this viewers opinion. Whoever was the cinematographer on this film did a very good job and should get a pay raise.

Overall, I think I did a very good job on the film and that Matt should be more careful with his florescent bulbs. I arrived on set and he managed to smash one two minutes later.

  • Really solid no budget flick

I watched this after having the pleasure of meeting the director at Birmingham Film Festival last night. I was pretty cautious going in, given how so many no-budget films are quite dull. This is thankfully not the case here. The film is a slow burn, but it doesn't feel like it has much filler, which is the main gripe I have with similar films. The performances all range from decent to pretty good. Director Jon Pegg clearly has an eye for good actors, as the casting is all really good. The one role I would say I didn't feel like it worked was the lead. The actor is clearly good, but he doesn't quite have the presence of someonr like Clint Eastwood or Toshiro Mifune that the film was clearly trying to emulate. Not a bad performance by any means, just miscast.

Very solid all around. Obviously not perfect, but a good way to spend 90 minutes.

  • "Eat lead sucka!"

Bad Taste is the directorial debut of Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson. This was made with little money and a do-it-yourself mindset- and got does it show. Although in this case it works to the film's advantage, especially in the goes aspect. It looks like the leftovers from a slaughterhouse (let's he honest, it probably was), which helps to give the film some production value. The closest film I can compare it to, is Sam Raimi's Evil Dead films, which also utilise splatter, humour and clever camera tricks. One of the most impressive scenes features a character played by Peter Jackson fighting an alien, who is also played by Peter Jackson. The film is low budget genius, and is essential viewing for anyone looking to make a low budget movie, or just enjoys gross out humour (that being said, this is much more gross than most gross out comedies).
