Complementing the clunky direction is the lazy camera work. Every acting moment is held far too long, and the close-ups of faces are repetitive and sometimes interminable.
The writing is undistinguished at best, bordering on soap, and it all has the feeling of "seen it before". Watching through the mediocrity wears you down, sort of like "Designated Survivor".
A waste of time. The current IMDB score of 8.4 is totally unwarranted.
Contrast this with the truly excellent "Homeland" series on a similar topic but with first class efforts in all regards. Great acting and direction, taut lines, and a driving plot with very few missteps.

I'm glad I gave this a shot. It's well produced and very well acted. The story is bizarre, but inventive and not impossible. Within its bounds, the plotting and writing is very good, with all the action holding together. That alone is an achievement these days.
A black comedy, exactly as advertised - and a pretty good one too.
