This film has gotten a lot of unfair flak, especially from Alien fans. I saw it at its opening week in 1997 in the theatre, and I watched it now in 2025, for the second time. Both times, I found it very entertaining. The magic of this instalment is that it does not need any of the preceding Alien films to be understandable or to be enjoyed.
Sigourney Weaver still has the lead role and does a great job, along with a terrific supporting cast. Most importantly. The story invents new, terrifying possibilities without destroying, or contradicting canon. They also managed to create a new creature that I actually found more horrifying than the original.
I would rate this one as the close third best, behind Alien (1979), and Aliens (1986).

The three main characters are very likable, believable and have the best chemistry. Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed play an unlikely but lovable trio stuck in a dangerous situation that is not really of their own making. They are all flawed in their various ways and ultimately recognise and accept their own and each other's shortcomings.
The film has several very funny moments, the script is tight, and even though the plot may be slightly far-fetched, at no stage will it feel contrived. The side characters are also quite memorable and do their roles well.
I really just wanted to say that this film is absolutely worth it, and I that enjoyed it right to the end.
