Much better acted than your usual romance and a lot more believable. The leads did a good job with a funny and fun script. Lara Pictet made an interesting slightly prickly heroine and Christopher Sky was perfect as her, at first, slightly reluctant partner in disaster. I loved the quirky touches. (No spoilers here!)
Some reviews have been very negative about the diverse casting but having been researching family histories on Ancestry sites, I assure you we all have diverse families if we delve deep enough. Noble families also come in all shapes, sizes and colours and it has always been like that. Do some research and you can find out the truth for yourself.
I found this film witty, charming and very smart and, frankly, far more entertaining than a lot of the standard period pieces. The casting was a dream and the Irish locations, standing in for Kent, were absolutely lovely. Big thumbs up from a real fan.

I've been binge watching this truly witty, funny and poignant show with great characters, from brilliant actors, that you can't help falling in love with as the fascinating histories unravel. Even the Black Death victims in the basement with their poxy bodies and terrible teeth become very endearing!
The one I feel most for is poor Humphrey who never seems to get it together, literally, for very long at a time and is the entertainment for the others in a very painful way. At least it is all taken by him in good humour and he is a great character to have wandering around the mansion looking for himself!
