There is definitely something off, something not right with this movie and it does not take long to figure that out, because the movie starts out with what might be the slowest, most unexciting chase scene I have ever the misfortune of watching. That is followed by the most unsuspenseful art heist in history, which in turn is followed by a ridiculous premise, stilted dialogue, a complete lack of chemistry between characters, and a bunch of actors who seem like they would rather be somewhere else entirely. Not even sure why I gave it 3 stars to be honest... maybe it's for the cinematography, which is good, and for my memories of when Guy Ritchie did great movies with even greater dialogue. My understanding is that he didn't write this one, but he directed it and that is a shame because it's really really a poor effort. Don't waste your time on this one.
It starts off with a ridiculous statement which says that "why she quit acting and where she went are a mystery to this day...." which was completely untrue. Everyone knows she lived in New York City and walked a lot. People saw her all over the city for years and years. Why she quit has also been well documented. So this slow moving, poorly narrated, idiotically stylized documentary teaches us nothing. Why is that woman in the blond wig reading papers while someone who sounds like Madonna using her fake British accent does a voice over? Why are the creepy papier machet masks necessary-symbolism? Wow, that's a high school play level plot device. The whole thing was off-putting, cringy, shallow and took away from the only decent parts, which was the interviews with people who knew her.
Showrunners for The Rookie; every time you do a documentary type episode EVERYONE HATES IT! EVERY TIME! How clueless or lazy do you have to be to keep falling back on this tired dog of a trope? Why can't you come up with something new and original? I was uninterested in the story from minute one. Do you read reviews? If so please go back to reviews for the previous 5 or 6 times you have pulled this lazy, sloppy stunt in the past. Next time I see one of these episodes coming I will delete from my DVR without delay. The writing this season started good and then went down hill as the season went on...the Purge rip off episode was pretty ridiculous as well. Please just get BETTER people!
