A fun film to watch! Great acting and plot moves along with twists and turns. Wanda is caught between in fighting family members and her own family over what to do with her unexpected new born. Even the ending is unexpected.
Incredible cinematography overshadows mediocre story. Two grisled guys yelling at each other for 2 hours and not sure why. Couldn't figure out why they hated each other. You would think they would try to get along in that situation. The acting was very powerful, bordering on overacting, but the script was too wordy and their accents so strong that it was hard to follow. Pattinson's character was Canadian but near the end he sounded more like a New Yorker. Visually mesmerizing but plot was flat so hard to buy into the characters. Didn't really care for either of them. Humour fell flat. So a mixed bag at best.
Just saw this film at the VIFF. The opening scene is worth the price of admission and the fast-paced dialogue had me engaged throughout the film. Lots of witty lines and funny gags had the audience laughing. The acting was superb, especially Margot, who had to play her real life role as the director's girl friend and her acting role as Victor's wife in the past. Victor also was excellent playing the down and out jilted husband seeking connection to his past. Overall the tight script and flawless acting makes it one of my favourite movies of the year.
