I was introduced to this by my son who's a fan and without his input it's one of those that's easily missed. I'm so glad he did because you have dry comedy mixed with hard line events but cleverly done. Totally addictive and already on series 2 with 11 episodes as opposed to 6 in series 1. Dialogue is somewhat predictable but nevertheless it's excellent viewing and love the dead pan acting. It's such a welcome change from the usual rubbish that's on these days.
Everyone has to start somewhere... yes... but you do a run , look back and amend as necessary or scrap it and start again. Sorry guys but this is awful in every way, from the padded coat as it was so cold whilst others having shorts on to such bad acting , bad sets, just bad everything, it's embarrassing. When you make a film like this, don't realise it until at least 30% of it is watchable.
I suppose if your at a certain young age where life happens without not to much trauma and the worst thing that could happen is you don't have the latest mobile phone then I can understand anyone like this watching this film would give it a big thumbs down, a one or switch off.... However, for those of us and there are plenty of us out there that have a close association with a lot of what this film portrays it is superb. Timothy Spall in my book has always been an actor who's skill has been a privilege to watch and in this film it's one of his best. For someone who can relate to this film in several ways it's just excellent in every way and for those who haven't experienced these situations then your very lucky which is why your probably so unattached with the meaning of this film. A big hats off to the director Gillies MacKinnon who got it spot on. Photography and music score also spot on. To me it's worth a nomination but no doubt to others a waste of time and that's the beauty of movies, to some it means so much and to others nothing.
