Yes, this is the type of old style Sunday afternoon whodunnits that don't strain the brain. However, they'd never be allowed anywhere near an active investigation, it simply would not happen - what they do would be classed as obstruction and interference.
And, in this episode so many laws were broken by one of the trio, that clearly no one has done any research into actual police rules!
A member of the public driving a police car - illegal, even if on private property (insurance is solely for Police operatives). Permission cannot be given for such! Driving said patrol car on public roads, with a passenger, using blues and twos, so illegal that not only they, but the officers allowing such would be brought up on charges!
Yes, I know it's not meant to be specifically accurate, but please, a little bit of common sense...

Building nicely through the 2 series - mystery, humanity and tension. Some want, as ever, far more action, because they don't have the patience to let the story build. This is a good story, but you have to stay with it. The characters also build as it goes on - although the 'young pretender' executive is too cliched. My one criticism is of the standard action cliche of hitting the guy with a fire extinguisher. If you do that, especially to the head, they don't shrug it off and get up a few seconds later, even more so if they've also bounced down a flight of metal stairs. Please can the writers be sensible...
