This show to me is a story of youth growing up in a fractured world and dealing with trauma, violence, drugs, and a lack of guidance from a young age and how it effects their development. These are normal things for a teen drama show to hone in on, but what makes it different to me is the cinematic quality. The cinematography, the music, the camera techniques, the film references.... you can tell the writer is a cinephile and is having lots of fun writing this story. I guess people who are fans of particular characters, and not just along for the ride will find themselves disappointed, but they're fools for thinking this show wants them to "stan" certain characters, or "ship" certain couples. This isn't the CW.
I'm so in love with this show. Long time fan of the comic. I see some users going on about how it rips of Marvel and DC. It's more of a homage/pastiche, the story is very original and goes some interesting directions as it progresses. Lots of little moments in this episode do well to hint at Nolans true nature, which to me is what made it good. I suppose a new fan wouldnt be able to see this yet. But stick with it. :)
