When you hear of the film Dangerous Minds, you instantly leap to Coolio's 1995 smash hit Gangsters Paradise. Not only was that the best selling single of the year that accompanied the film, but the film gained a cult status. High school films peaked in the 1990s but Dangerous Minds stands out from the rest, it goes in depth of the struggles faced by students caught in between school and gang life. So, from the beginning, Dangerous Minds is loosely based on the book My Posse Don't Do Homework. Michelle Phiffer stars as LouAnne Johnson, after serving nine years in the marines she fancies a new challenge in teaching. The principle has assigned LouAnne to class with students who are described "unteachable" and "rejects from hell", but in reality, these students suffer from a wide range of social and educational problems. LouAnne aims to open them up academically with teaching them karate and bribing with candy bars. The humbling aspect of this film is seeing that when kids from a disadvantaged background get shown care, they creatively open up in a number of ways. This film should make you look differently at the social stereotype these teenagers are often given.

To be honest, I wasn't excited when I saw this being the next horror film in my watchlist however, I was quick to judge. Yeah, okay, the film is your standard run of the mill slasher, it has a very late 90's vibe to it and is very predictable at times, but the acting standard is decent and the underlining mystery keeps you glued. It Is not the best horror film in the world, but it delivers what you expect and is on par with other similar movies. Moving school's is always a big deal, but moving to a school in another country is a whole other intensity level. Owen has just left the United Kingdom to go to a fancy preppy school in America, the transition is not helped when a local girl is found murdered on the same day. Dodger is the typical American high school girl who's also having an affair with a teacher, she decides to play "cry wolf" with Owen and a bunch of classmates. The group spread a rumor that the killer is called wolf who stalks his victims on campus, they also describe in graphic detail how he murders each victim. It soon becomes apparent that no one believes a liar and when the lie becomes the truth, the gang need to work out how to survive their sadistic made up plan.

The darkly twisted approach to a romantic film is what sets Cruel Intentions apart from the rest. The old saying about sibling rivalry is pushed to the extreme in this film and the damage of teenage lives due having no morals or conscience. Set in Upper East side New York lives Sebastian, a cunning serial womanizer who has slept with the majority of the city, and his sister Kathryn, a beautiful yet evil and manipulative young woman. Getting fed up with the local women, Sebastian sets his sights on a new challenge, her name is Annabelle. The headmaster's daughter is virginal and believes openly in only sleeping with the man you love. The evil side of Kathryn comes out when she notices that Sebastian is falling for Annabelle and she makes a wager, if he fails to sleep with Annabelle she will get his prize possession, his vintage 1956 Jaguar XK140, but if Seb does sleep with Annabelle he will get the one thing he desires most, Kathryn. Every aspect of the film is beautiful, from the cinematography to the acting. No wonder it gained its following.
