First, it's an ok comedy, worth to watch once. However, the main actor just cannot act, or the director instructed him wrong (who is the same guy...) - it's always hard to decide. He just seems to be emotionless / expressionless, but not the funny way (by the way I had the same problem with Bill Murray in some late roles, eg. In Lost in translation). It almost ruined the jokes for me in the movie. The other actors play well. Disclaimer: I didn't know Ricky Gervais before, but I can see a lot of fans here. Maybe his style performs well for standups, but at least not for this movie by my opinion.
It feels like a mediocre AI created the plot, limiting its running time to 1 millisecond and allowing to use only the most common cliches. Totally predictable even for a 6 yo, rootless figures I just couldn't care them and the plot at all not for a moment, neither my little daughter could.
Visuals was nice (especially when the female actor was recent in the scene:-), the movie had some atmosphere, the female actor's performance was acceptable, and that's all the positive things..
The male actor was so incredibly bad that i literally felt pain and shame when he was talking... like he was reading a text in a shower gel commercial or something.
The story also had some potential, however being full of cliches, but they just didn't make it, even finished it at the half, by my feeling.
