The actors and story were great, but what really stood out to me is the cinematography and the music. The characters feel like they are real, and don't act unrealistically. The story is also not that predictable, and the writers did not take shortcuts when developing it. The characters in these comedies usually feel shallow, which they did in this as well, but only in the first 20-30 minutes of the first episode.
I honestly would've loved more episodes exploring the unique characters' background stories. Also, some of the cinematography tricks really surprised me, I wouldn't have expected them in a romantic comedy.

I seldom rate tv shows this high, but the show definitely deserves all the praise it gets. Bella Ramsey is surprisingly great and Pedro Pascal also does an outstanding performance being the father figure.
Without spoiling anything, what I love about the show is that the main characters are not perfect. They have flaws and their choices are not one sided. They are not "good". In this harsh alternative reality people have to make, well, harsh choices, and while Ellie and Joel try to do their best at making moral and ethically good decisions, it doesn't always work out.
The show is perfectly understamdable and enjoyable without having played the game.
