I'm not sure why so many people have denigrated this movie. In the fabulous 50s this type of issue wasn't talked about or even whispered. I salute the director and producers for thinking outside the norms of the day. Miss Farrell was amazing in her first role. Low budget yes, but low budget doesn't always correlate to low quality. I stumbled into this movie by accident but would recommend to others to give it a try. For its time they surely would have had difficulty getting funding and promotion as Hollywood seldom sticks out their neck to reach beyond the cookie cutter scripts they celebrate. Well done.
My wife really wanted to see this movie. She loves both actors so it seemed a no brainer. Ten minutes in I was ready to bolt. Unfortunately we stayed for the whole movie. Upon exit, my wife declared to anybody who could hear her; This Was The Worst Movie I've Ever Seen. I was less complimentary. Don't waste your time seeing this , life is too short. Your time would be better served spitting in the wind. If this doesn't send Meg Ryan back into retirement nothing could. These characters gave you nothing to like them. Tedious boring banter with nothing resolved at the end of this movie. Oh by the way Ducovney wasn't even interested apparently. Throw teenty bucks out your window and count yourself lucky.
I watched the movie expecting to see a train wreck. It started slowly but made progress towards making this a stand alone movie. The ability to use the original characters all grown up, used the same spirit as the original. Swartz and Flick did what normal childhood kids do, talk smack. Ralphie's character although true to the original didn't try to act like a kid. Julie Haggarty a replacement made a solid performance. We still will watch the original every Christmas and add this movie as well. I'm certainly glad all holiday movies aren't remade or sequeled. The writers and directors made a solid stand alone movie. You won't regret it.
