This seminal film tracks a lawyer bringing down a blackmailer in a time when homosexuals were imprisoned "gross indecency" a braid term used for any sexual act between men. Purposely vague and intended to cause outrage.
Janet Green (1908 1993) & John McCormicks comment on society in the sixties, starring Dirk Bogarde (Despair, The Night Porter, The Servant) who himself lived with Anthony Forwood in a homosexual relationship, although never publicly came out, plays the "closeted" lawyer who risks everything to bring down a blackmailer.
A whole raft of well known actors line the cast, Sylvia Syms, , Dennis Price, Peter Copley, Norman Bird, Noel Howlett, Mavis Villiers, all household names in their day.
Little cameo by Frank Thornton (1921 2013) as the barbers assistant.
Such a good film, very relevant still. Definitely worth a watch.

This Christie style whodunnit with a star studded cast including some well known crime actors fails to deliver any real intrigue.
Helen Mirren (Prime Suspect) Pierce Brosnan (Bond) Ben Kingsley (Gandhi) and Celia Imrie (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) take the lead in this humorous murder mystery.
It took a while to warm up, much like a TV dinner and disappointed in similar fashion.
Superb performances from all including David Tennant (Broadchurch, Doctor Who) the gorgeous Tom Ellis (Lucifer, Miranda) however they didn't have much to work with.
The perfect Sunday afternoon film to watch after lunch and fall asleep to.
Lovely cameo by Ruth Sheen.

Mmmm where to start!
I love all the cast, Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman have great voices. Indeed Kidman had recorded several tracks. Ewan McGregors voice is well know, Down With Love featured his voice alongside Renée Zellweger singing the title track and the closing credits.
This musical farce, comedy romance is a mixture of popular music and classics brought together within a tragic romance.
Whilst the performances are solid and the singing competent I don't think it really held together. The writing seemed as erratic as the story it was telling. It reminded me of Tommy the rock musical. Chaotic and visually difficult.
It's worth a watch just because it's a classic but that's the only reason.
